The Tea Set
The perfect tea set is important when it comes to drinking tea,
especially for tea drinkers in the West. Usually enjoyed in formal tea parties in the afternoon, tea has been a
symbol for elegance in the West. This is perhaps why the tools used to serve tea are so important.
You’ll be able to find all kinds of tea sets. Inexpensive tea sets are more readily available, but more high end ones are quite favored. No matter what your budget
for your tea set is, they are sure to include a few key things. They come with a teapot and a few
teacups (two to four), saucers, teaspoons, a bowl for the sugar, and a jug for the milk or cream. Some tea
sets might include a coffee pot and a tray for all the waste, but not all sets have them.
Sterling silver is one of the most popular materials to use when it comes to formal dinner
parties. They are both inexpensive, and look very regal on your table. Furthermore, they are a staple in many homes
because they last for a very long time. They don’t rust, and they’re very easy to clean. They usually come
with a silver tray and matching teaspoons. For sugar cubes, tongs are used though some silver tea sets come with a
coffeepot to serve to other guests who prefer a hot cup of Joe. In very formal dinner parties, footmen serve the
tea, and the butler supervises everything. While the footman is responsible for serving the tea, the butler is
responsible for all of the silver. Silver teapots are the most common, and can be found at almost any store.
Clay pots, on the other hand, are one of the best receptacles to brew your tea in. They are
the traditional way to brew tea, and are still very practical up until today. They are universal, and are not
only efficient tea brewers; they’re great for as decoration as well. They originated in the Han Dynasty, in
China at a time when tea was brewed in porcelain tea sets, there were only two kinds used: northern and
southern. The former is white and the latter is colored light blue. The tea leaves are pressed tightly on to the
clay tea pot to get the flavor and extracts out. Spices are added in. Sometimes, orange, flower petals and even
onions were mixed. Furthermore, they were not used purely for tea making purposes. They could be used for a
variety of things – including tea. It was considered an elixir, and not something for everyday drink. They were
only used for medicinal purposes. The development of the real teapot we use today was made in the Song
Dynasty.
The next development of the teapot like cast iron
teapot was quite a breakthrough. The yixing tea sets are used even up until today. They are very porous, and
allow the clay teapot to add a unique flavor to the tea. They are still commonly used up until today because of
their versatility and efficiency.
