The Tea Basics
Tea drinking in other countries might happen differently, like
for example in United States about 80 percent of people choose iced tea. Nevertheless as the day goes by
Americans are discovering the enjoyment of a cup of hot tea. There are four main categories of tea; black tea,
oolong tea, white tea and green tea and are all originating from the tea plant (Camellia sinensis), a plant
associated to the magnolia. Black tea is the most common and also has the stronger taste and aroma.
The process takes a lot of time since it needs to be fully fermented. Oolong tea is semi
fermented and has a taste somewhere in between the black and green tea. White tea is not easy to find
outside of China, since the process is quite delicate. For white tea they only use leaf tips and buds of the tea
plant and the tea leaves; however this is said to have health benefits. Green tea is among the most popular
types of tea; it has been used as a medicine for almost a decade now. In China a lot of people prefer green tea, a
lot of research and studies also proved the ability of this incredible beverage.
Darjeeling is a very popular type of black tea with a delicate, flowery bouquet, named after an
area in the foothills of the Himalayas. Gunpowder is a fine green tea from China, and Formosa oolong is a
high-grade oolong from Taiwan. Earl Grey on the other hand is a black tea flavored with oil of bergamot, a type of
bitter orange.
In order to prepare for a hot cup of tea you need to have your cast iron
tea pot and cast iron kettle. Make sure that it is clean and free of rust, and then boil your water in
your kettle. After the boiling point and right temperature, transfer the water to your tea pot and let your tea
steep for about a minute or so. You probably had seen this on televisions where Martha uses a nonreactive
pot, which heats the water quickly.
This is advisable especially if you are a busy person and don’t have much time to wait for an
hour just to have a cup of tea. Nonetheless keep in mind that different types of teas have
different ways of preparations. Make sure to know all of these things if you want to fully enjoy the delightful
taste and aroma of your tea. Change your old and boring habit every day, a cup of tea will definitely charge you
up for the whole day activities you have in mind. You can have your tea either hot or cold depending on your
mood. However always remember that too much intake on something might not be a good idea. Indeed tea drinking
has a lot of benefits but do not overdo it. So make sure to only drink your tea on moderation and with limits.
